Maine lobsterman Jason Joyce spoke on the second night of the Republican National Convention about why he would vote for Trump in 2020 after not voting for him in 2016. He cited Trump’s work to eliminate EU tariffs on lobster, “which is great news for Maine's lobstermen,” and criticized environmental protections put in place by Democrats, which he said did not affect his territory but “circumvented the fisheries counsels’ input.” The party planned a mix of virtual and in-person events in North Carolina and Washington, D.C., for its nominating convention after the coronavirus pandemic interrupted plans for a traditional nominating event.
